The police on Monday arraigned two suspects, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, over the killing of Deborah Samuel on May 12, with the defence team boasting of 34 lawyers. A mob of Muslim extremists comprising colleagues and co-students of the deceased, brutally murdered Ms Samuel over alleged blasphemy, sparking nationwide outrage by Nigerians.

Presently there is an ongoing protest in Sokoto State calling for the immediate release of all who were apprehended by the police over the murder of Miss Deborah Samuel a 200-level student of the State College of Education, who was beaten, stoned, and was set ablaze for accused blasphemy.

A federal high court sitting in Abakiliki has yesterday declared the contentious Ebonyi state Cybercrime Law No 12 of 2021 as unconstitutional, null and void. One Pascal Etu approached the High court suing the Ebonyi state Governor, Dave Umahi over the controversial law he assented to. The Umahi-led administration had last year September 2021 enacted a cybercrime law in a controversial circumstance that attracted a wide condemnation. It was learned that apart from the statehouse of Assembly members, no pressmen were invited to the enacting of the law despite no one knowing about the process that led to the creation of the law, talk less of the public hearing.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted consignments of psychoactive substances in Kaduna, Yobe, and Plateau States. The Director, Media, and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) via a presser disclosed that it has intercepted travellers’ cheques in different foreign currencies totalling over N1.1 billion and 10.89kilograms of cocaine, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos; 2,000kg of Tramadol, Codeine, Cannabis, Heroin and 401kg of cannabis were also intercepted in various location across the country. The agency, in a statement signed by Femi Babafemi, director, of media and advocacy, made this disclosure through the Twitter page.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has on Tuesday raised alarm over the alleged plans by suspected criminal gangs to carry out Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) attacks on worship and recreational centres across the country. This was announced in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the security agency, Mr Peter Afunanya in Abuja, saying the security organisation has received reports of suspected criminal gangs forging alliances to attack public installations nationwide.
