Nigeria's highest court of law says contrary to media reports, it does not take orders from the President as it remains an independent arm of government like the executive and legislature.

The National Judicial Council, (NJC) has reportedly removed the name of Justice Walter Onnoghen from the Council’s member list and replaced it with the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, as it acting chairman. The council list is made up of 23 members instead of the full membership of 24.
