The Appeal Court has declared that the police Act 2020 is illegal, null, and void. The Police Act 2020 was a revised version of the police service Act enacted last September reviewing the constitutional mandate of the Police Service Commission. The Appealed Court posited that the provision of the act has gone against the paragraph 30 Part 1 of the third schedule of the 1999 Constitution as amended “which empowers the Commission to appoint persons into offices in the Nigerian police Force except for the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Suspected thugs clashed with #Endsars protesters on Wednesday, around Berger Roundabout in Abuja. The incident has lead to many sustaining injuries, many cars parked at the roundabout were also destroyed by rampaging thugs. The thugs reportedly attacked the protesters with sticks and machetes, and in the process the protesters resisted them. The incident disrupted vehicular and pedestrian movement along the always busy road.

The entire members of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have been ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, for debriefing, psychological and medical examination. Public Relations officer for the Police, Frank Mba, in a statement on Tuesday said the officers were expected to go through the processes stated above to further training and reorientation before being redeployed into mainstream policing duties. “The Inspector-General of Police, M.A. Adamu, has today, 13th October 2020, in accordance with Section 18 (10) of the Police Act 2020, ordered all personnel of the defunct SARS to report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for debriefing, psychological and medical examination. The officers are expected to undergo this process as a prelude to further training and reorientation before being redeployed into mainstream policing duties," the statement said.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said that whatever the new Police outfit that is going to replace the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), must be “acceptable” to all Nigerians and would be compliant with human rights and rule of law.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Rotimi Akeredolu as the Governor-elect of the 2020 Ondo Election after he emerged victorious against Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Deputy Gov. Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has officially dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, relayed this message during a press conference held October 11, 2020. He stated that the police officers deployed under SARS, will now be deployed for other purposes and a new anti-robbery squad with the same objectives as SARS will be named later. The principal law enforcement and the lead security agency in Nigeria boss added that conducts, members and activities of their unit investigated with collaboration with civil societies organisation - when found wanting, identified culprits within the force will be punished.
