A Bird 206 helicopter with registration number 5N BQW belonging to Quorum Aviation crashed in 16A Salvation Opebi road of Lagos state around 12.00 pm today. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) officials revealed the helicopter flew in from Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital with two crew members and a passenger.

Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have neutralized no fewer than 25 bandits in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoro State in its effort to rid the axis of incessant unprovoked killings and kidnappings prevalent in the zone. The coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Eneche while announcing the deed recorded by the military in August, said troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have continued to record significant successes against the armed bandits in the North West Zone of the country, stressing that during the period under review large cache of arms and ammunition, over 1000 livestock were recovered. Narrating some of the operations that led to the successes Eneche said:

The Nigerian Army through the coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche disclosed that about 410 members of the Darul Salam terrorist group have reportedly surrendered to troops and security agencies attached to Operation Whirl Stroke in Nasarawa State.This disclosure was made on Thursday in a statement titled "Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke bust terrorist cell, recover explosives, arms as 410 members of Darul Salam terrorist group surrender"

Following the heightened security situation in Northwest Nigeria that has continued unabated, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state says foreigners now exchange gold with arms and other precious resources. The Governor stated this yesterday while answering questions from the statehouse reporters after presenting some gold bars and other precious mineral mined in his state to President Buhari at the Presidential villa. In his statement, “It’s very important to us as a government, particularly, the issue of insecurity, to know the root cause of insecurity. Zamfara state is blessed with many mineral resources and some people outside the country come in to buy gold and other precious stones and sometimes instead of paying people, they pay back with arms.

President Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons for the delay in approving community policing in Nigeria as the inability of states to pay workers' salaries. Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, speaking on behalf of Buhari said the president was particular about the sustenance of the community policing arrangement, hence the delay with his assent. Shehu also disclosed that the president was worried about the proliferation of arms, hence the delay.

An aircraft belonging to Jedidiah Air crashed into a fence at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Friday. The incident happened while the King Air 200 jet with registration number 5N-HIS, was trying to park at the tarmac close to a facility used by Bristow Helicopters. The accident according to eye witnesses occurred owing to brake failure and it caused considerable damage to the aircraft.
