An aircraft belonging to Jedidiah Air crashed into a fence at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Friday. The incident happened while the King Air 200 jet with registration number 5N-HIS, was trying to park at the tarmac close to a facility used by Bristow Helicopters. The accident according to eye witnesses occurred owing to brake failure and it caused considerable damage to the aircraft.

The Kaduna state Magistrate Court 1 has set free two of the three suspects under investigation with the police in connection to the death of flying office Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female helicopter fighter pilot. The two suspects Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji, who were both only passengers and friends of the first suspect who was driving the vehicle, were found not wanting based on Police findings.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has yesterday ordered the Governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku, to appear before it to answer the allegation of taking a side in setting up the panel to probe the unabated clash that has pitched Tiv and Jukun natives against each other in the state. Jointly in the summoned were four service chiefs of the country and head of other security agencies amongst others. Justice Ahmed Mohammed gave the order while ruling on a fundamental rights enforcement suits filed by some group of aggrieved persons in the state.

Following a viral video of some Nigerians stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed that those stranded Nigerians can begin to return to the country from August 29, 2020, when the International flight commences. The viral footage showed some Nigerians in a desert area, saying they were forced to flee to the open grounds outside Dubai. The video accused the UAE of racism adding that they were prevented from departing the country. According to Ferdinand Nwonye, Spokesperson of the ministry, a number of stranded Nigerians have been evacuated and those who remained were those that showed they could return on their own.

The Department of State Services, on Friday, insisted that there were plans by some unnamed notable personalities in the country to subvert the nation. In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by its spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanaya, the service pointed out that part of the orchestrations of the plotters was to engage in divisive acts as well as use inciting statements to pit one group against another in the country. The service, however, declared that in line with its mandate of detecting and preventing threats and crimes against the internal security of Nigeria, it would “henceforth not condone unruly conducts ought to know better”.

Following the uproar by some section of Nigerians that the Federal Government hate speech law was targeting to gag the freedom of speech, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has come out to explain what constitutes hate speech. The Minister while explaining hate speech on Thursday said “any speech, broadcast or publication that denigrates a person, group, and group of persons on the bases of their sex, religion or political belief is hate speech.
