The Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has announced that cash withdrawals from government accounts would end by March 1, 2023, adding that any government official that engages in such would be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant security agencies. This was disclosed to journalists on Thursday in Abuja by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), NFIU, Modibbo Tukur where he stated that this development was in line with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Department of States Services, DSS has disclosed today that they have arrested an Islamic state of West African Province, ISWAP, the commander who masterminded the recent bomb explosion that was detonated in Okene, Kogi state on 29th December when President Buhari visited the state. According to the secret police spokesperson, Peter Afunaya today, two suspects were arrested in connection to the terrorist attack namely; Abdulmumini Ibrahim Otaru, an ISWAP commander, and Saidu Suleiman.

In a bid to tackle insecurity in Imo and other South-Eastern states, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the deployment of technology to improve the region’s security. Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State revealed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ecology and Maritime Rights Organisation Coordinator, Musa Saidu, has cautioned some vested interest groups against politicizing the probe against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emifele, by the Department of States Services, DSS. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN today, Saidu said it was unnecessary to meddle in an alleged N70trillion looted money by the CBN boss and his cronies stashed in different accounts in commercial banks, saying Nigerians should allow the DSS to do their job.

The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has shown mercy on 46 inmates who were serving different jail terms at the Gasua Medium Correctional Center. The state Commissioner for Justice Junaidu Attahir while addressing journalists after the pardon stated that the inmates were forgiven by the governor based on the committee's recommendations. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 46 inmates were carefully selected by the committee from different categories of sentences, including 46 inmates serving between six months and 20 years imprisonment, 11 inmates with life imprisonment, and five that are on death row.
