The Federal Government (FG) has announced that the Abuja-Kaduna Train Services is set to resume on Monday, December 5, 2022. This was disclosed by the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria who said that all train services along that route are set to resume and also advised passengers to start updating their mobile app from Saturday, December 3, 2022 in order to successfully book their train tickets.
The National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno has assured Nigerians that despite skirmishes of insecurity in the land, the security agencies are on top of their game and elections will be conducted peacefully as planned. The NSA made this known yesterday during a Ministerial Media Briefing organized by Presidential Communication Team at the state house. He said for the assailants that attack INEC offices, especially in the southeastern part of the country, securities are already on a manhunt for the criminals and they will be served with justice.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has said that 10,000 additional officers currently being trained in police colleges nationwide would be deployed for the 2023 general elections. According to him, the newly trained police officers would graduate from the police colleges at the end of December and would be deployed to compliment the police strength already available for the upcoming elections.
Four persons have been reported dead from an auto crash involving the convoy of the Governor of Adamawa State Ahmed Fintiri, while on his way to Mubi for campaign engagement. It was stated that the accident occurred around Fadamareke, in Hong Local Government Area of the state, where a Toyota Hilux conveying a detachment of vigilantes crashed and is being linked to overspeeding while trying to maneuver a bend. Three lifeless bodies of occupants in the van that includes Bako Kaura, head of PDP’s informal security arm, and another victim identified as Adamu, Kaura’s biological son have been deposited at the mortuary of Hong Federal Medical Centre.
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS headquarters has declared Monday, 5th December 2022 as a day they will stage a nationwide protest demanding the release of one of them, Aminu Mohammed, a student from Federal University Dutse who was arrested and sent to prison by Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Buhari over cyberbullying. NANS President, Usman Barambu, made this known today in a statement made available to the press, saying the protest will last until Mohammed is released from detention.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said weapons from the raging war between Russia and Ukraine are now slipping into the Lake Chad Basin region. Lake Chad region is an economically and socially integrated area in West and Central Africa traversing Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria. President Buhari, who said this at the 16th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), held at the Conference Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari, said the situation which had heightened the proliferation of small arms and light weapons called for reawakening of the border security of the countries of the region. The event had Presidents and Heads of State of the six member-states in attendance, with the exception of President Paul Biya of Cameroon, who was represented by one of his ministers.
