A Shari'a Court sitting in Kano has sentenced an Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, to death by hanging for making blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (PUBH). This judgment was passed by the presiding judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, during a court session on 15th December 2022 which lasted over three hours. The defendant was arraigned on 16th July 2021 by the Kano State Government on four counts charge bordering on blasphemy on Prophet Muhammad PUBH. Sarki also ordered the state government to seize all the 189 books the defendant tendered as exhibits to be taken to Kano State Library for public use, relying on section 331 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Kano 2019.

The federal government has denied allegations that the Nigerian military was running a secret abortion scheme for its female officers. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed stated this during a press conference in Abuja following a report by a foreign news agency that no fewer than 10,000 female military operatives were subjected to forced abortion in the military facility. Mr. Mohammed described the news as fake, and concocted and wondered how an agency that described itself as a news outlet will spew such a figure void of reference only claiming that they interviewed 33 persons while describing other sources as “unidentified”.

Civil servants in Plateau State have commenced a five-day warning strike with effect from 12th December 2022, this is coming after the failure of the government to meet their demands of none payment of three months' salaries and non-release of third-party deductions among others. This development was made public by the Chairman of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Comrade Titus L. Malau, at the conference hall of Labor House in Jos the state capital. The decision by the workers to go on strike comes a day after the state's Head of Civil Service, Sunday Chong, promised that government will pay them their outstanding salaries.

The Ebonyi state Governor has directed the security agencies in the state to kill at sight any hoodlum they found in possession of a firearm or any dangerous weapon. The killing order was declared by the commissioner of Information, Uchenna Orji, through a statement on behalf of the governor following the unabated terrorism being meted out by unknown gunmen on INEC offices and the general public across the state. Vigil360 learned that some gunmen invaded a commercial area in the state and were shooting sporadically into the air forcing innocent civilians into pandemonium.

A gang of gunmen attacked and detonated explosives in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Owerri the Imo state capital in the early hours of 12th December 2022. It was revealed by sources that the hoodlums who invaded the facility in large numbers threw grenades into the office premises from outside, which resulted in casualties of various degrees. Reports have it that three of the attackers were killed, while one of them was captured alive by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives stationed in the vicinity. The incident has been confirmed to newsmen by INEC's relations officer, Dr. Chinenye Chijoke.
