The Federal government disclosed it has released N9.5 billion for the payment of scholarships and allowances owed Nigerian students both home and abroad up to December 2018. This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Asta Ndajiwo, Director Federal Scholarship Board, during a press conference in Abuja over the weekend. Less than a week that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) commenced registration for candidates in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, over 300,000 candidates have so far registered for the exams.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has reacted to the reported plan by some public institutions to suspend the ongoing strike that has grounded academic activities across the country. Dailypost had reported that some public universities are on the verge of boycotting the over 8 weeks’ strike, and have threatened to return their students to classrooms.

The Federal Government has renewed commitment as it has reached agreement with the striking university lecturers the development which signal the prolonged industrial action is almost over. Biodun Ogunyemi, the national president of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) disclosed that the National Executive committee of the union will renew its decision considering the new commitment by the federal government according to Premium Times.

The Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has warned 2019 prospective candidates against fake advertisements announcing sales of registration forms, examination centers and subject combination on social media platforms.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a two weeks ultimatum to both federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to negotiate out the strike action or they will face the student wrath.
