The Federal Government says it will meet with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday in continuation of efforts to resolve the ongoing strike by the lecturers. According to Dailytrust, Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, in a statement by Mrs Iliya Rhoda, Deputy Director, Press in the ministry.

The leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, says the leadership of the union is still consulting its members on the Federal Government’s offer. Ogunyemi in a message to Sunday Punch said the outcome of the consultations would determine what ASUU would be presenting to the government’s team during their next meeting within the week.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of failing to make fresh offer on funding, for the revitalisation of public universities in the country.

The Federal government disclosed it has released N9.5 billion for the payment of scholarships and allowances owed Nigerian students both home and abroad up to December 2018. This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Asta Ndajiwo, Director Federal Scholarship Board, during a press conference in Abuja over the weekend.
