A Parisian court has on Wednesday found the former head of World Athletics, Lamine Diack guilty of corruption, and sentenced to four years in prison with two years suspended and a fine of nearly $600,000 in a Russian doping scandal. Diack, 87 led the IAAF for 16 years and was found guilty to have received bribes of over $3 million to cover up Russian athletes' doping and also using the money to help finance Macky Sall's presidential candidacy campaign in 2012.

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare has pledged that the Moshood Abiola national stadium main bowl pitch will be re-grassed and rehabilitated to world-class standards by April 2020. The Minister made this disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during the handover ceremony of the pitch to the contractor for re-grassing, fixing of scoreboards, and rehabilitation of the main bowl. While handing over the project to the contractor, Dare assured that the feat will bring back the stadium to global reckoning as the citadel of sporting excellence.

Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe on Wednesday insinuated that the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (postponed to 2021) may not take place next year and will have to be cancelled unless the COVID-19 pandemic is contained. 

The 18th edition of the Okpekpe road competition has been cancelled. The cancellation was not unconnected from the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the globe and the travel restrictions across the world.

New dates for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics will likely be revealed this week, organisers said Monday after the coronavirus forced the historic decision to postpone the Games until next year.

The Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, in a joint meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire and other health experts have agreed that the 2020 edition of the National Sports Festival scheduled to take place in Edo state from Friday, March 20th to Friday, April 3rd 2020 be postponed.
