Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, claiming that the party is unable to lead with credibility and offer Nigerians an effective government. Melaye announced his immediate departure from all party activities in a resignation letter posted on his official X account on Thursday, July 4, 2025, sent to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
"I hereby submit my resignation from all positions within the People's Democratic Party."
"This decision has become necessary because the party lacks the strength and ability to save the Nigerian people from the political cankerworms that are currently consuming our beloved country."
Melaye, who previously ran for governor of Kogi State in 2023 as the PDP's candidate, said he made the choice after giving careful thought to the party's present situation and future direction.
"I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda after carefully considering the state of the party," the letter went on.
Additionally, he asked that his resignation be interpreted as an official and complete disengagement from all tiers and institutions of the party.
In light of the aforementioned, the letter further stated, "Please take this as my official withdrawal from the party and all of its activities at all levels with immediate effect."
During his final remarks, Melaye conveyed his appreciation for the chance to serve under the party's program while he was a member.
The letter ended, "Thank you for giving me the chance to serve under the platform during my membership period."
