The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governors elected on the party's platform held a closed-door meeting in Abuja as consultations intensify ahead of the party's national convention scheduled for March. The meeting took place on Wednesday night at the Imo State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) led by its chairman and Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma, hosting members of the NWC led by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Tilwatda. The engagement followed the APC's release last year of a comprehensive timetable for its 2026 ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, which are expected to culminate in the party's national convention.
Governors present at the meeting included Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), among others.
Also in attendance were Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), while Governors Dikko Radda (Katsina), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe) were absent but sent their deputies to represent them.
Sources said deliberations focused on the ongoing electronic registration exercise, preparations for ward and local government congresses, and other pressing national and party-related issues requiring coordination between the governors and the party's leadership.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Governor Uzodimma said the forum remained committed to strengthening democratic practices within the APC and commended the electronic registration initiative for its potential to enhance a data-driven party structure.
“The Forum reaffirmed its collective commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness within the APC across all levels of the federation,” a communiqué issued after the meeting stated.
“The Forum reviewed and endorsed the proposed timetable and institutional framework as approved by NEC for the forthcoming Ward, Local Government, State, Zonal Congresses, and the National Convention,” it added, underscoring broad support for the party’s congress roadmap.
The communiqué further noted that “The Forum emphasized the importance of transparent and coordinated financial management in the conduct of congresses and conventions,” while stressing party unity, discipline and harmony, adding that “The PGF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to party unity and internal harmony.”
