A former goalkeeper of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Peter Rufai has died at the age of 61. According to reports, Rufai passed away on Thursday following a prolonged illness.

Diogo José Teixeira da Silva, also known as Diogo Jota, a forward for Liverpool and a Portugal international, died at the age of 28. His sudden passing, which occurred only days after what appeared to be the pinnacle of his personal and professional lives, has shocked the football community. According to a story published on Thursday by the Spanish sports weekly MARCA, Jota died in a car crash in northwestern Spain on July 3, 2025, killing him and his brother, Andre Felipe, who was also a professional footballer.
