Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has expressed his interest in the purchase of Chelsea football club as current club owner Roman Abramovich talks of an imminent takeover. The Russian billionaire, being an Oligarch, also a close ally to president Vladimir Putin has bowed to pressure from England and has put to rest speculations regarding his plan for the club.
It can be called that towards the end of February, Labour MP Chris Bryant urged the government to take action against Mr Abramovich. The 55-year-old has now publicly admitted he is looking to sell the club, with Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and former boss Mourinho claiming they each have been offered the chance to buy the club.
Jose Mourinho in an interview however stated that he alone can not buy or run the club unless via shares or with a consortium. " I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.
"I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him £2billion [it is £1.5billion]. But Chelsea has no money. That means: those who buy Chelsea should compensate Abramovich.
"As of today, we don't know the exact selling price. I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners. But I have to examine the general conditions first. But what I can already say: I'm definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors."
Roman Abramovich in his statement intends to use the proceeds from the sale of the club to help victims of war in Ukraine.
