The National Assembly has passed an amendment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act by approving life imprisonment for drug offenders/traffickers in the country. The resolution of the Senate followed its adoption of the report of its conference committee on the amendment of the NDLEA Act.
Following the arrest of the Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, in Finland the Federal Government is considering application to the finish authority for his extradition to come and face charges in Nigeria for instigating the Eastern Security Network, ESN to reign terror on Nigeria. Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, made this known yesterday Thursday, saying Ekpa, a self-proclaimed disciple of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, should be extradited to Nigeria to face criminal charges.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the hearing of a motion filed by former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, seeking to amend the originating process in her ongoing legal battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo has rescheduled the hearing for February 17, 2025.
Finnish-Nigerian separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, along with four other individuals, has been arrested in Finland on allegations of terror-related crimes. Ekpa, who is also known as the “Prime Minister” of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, was remanded by the district court of Päijät-Häme on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.
The ECOWAS Court has objects Nigeria’s preliminary doubt to the court’s jurisdiction to determine a human rights violation case involving a Nigerian man on death row for 30 years. Vincent Ogueri is a 72-year-old inmate in a Nigerian maximum security prison remanded for killing a police constable in 1990 and also killing a former member of the State Executive Council and the Orlu senatorial candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Ogbonnaya Uche alias OGB. Delivering the ruling on Thursday in Abuja, Justice Edward Asante dismissed all the preliminary objections raised by Nigeria challenging the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the case involving Ogueri.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the emergence of a new terrorist group known as ‘Lukarawas’ in the North-western part of Nigeria, which was disclosed to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba.
