Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku on Wednesday 4th July 2019 signed into law capital punishment for kidnappers in the state. This followed the recent enactment of the edict by the State's House of Assembly on anti-kidnapping. The new law states that anyone convicted of kidnapping would be liable to a death sentence.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday had a closed-door meeting with the security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Speaking after the meeting, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique, said the meeting was all about the security of Nigerians and Nigeria.

In the wake of widespread condemnation and outrage that greeted the planned creation of the Ruga Settlement Programme across the country, the Federal Government on Wednesday, 3rd July 2019 suspended the planned programme. Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had distanced himself from the Ruga plan.

Following spate of mixed reactions over the planned creation of "Ruga Settlements" across the country, on 3oth June 2019 Special Assistant (SA) to the president, Garba Shehu in a statement disclosed that the move was conceived out of the need to address growing clashes between farmers and herders in the country.
