Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) yesterday 22nd October 2019 busted two illegal rehabilitation centers in Kaduna State.
The facilities discovered are Limanchi Iya and Marmara Rehabilitation Centers in Zaria, Kaduna State.
In an operation carried out by operatives' of the NSCDC on Tuesday morning in the ancient city of Zaria, the security operatives rescued 11 people who were in chains, including an 11-year-old boy.
The NSCDC Deputy Commandant in Kaduna, Aloysius Nnegha, informed reporters that three people died in one of the centers while in custody.
He added that many of the victims suffer from acute malnutrition as a result of the dehumanized condition they were subjected to.
Recall that security operatives raided two other facilities, both located in Rigasa, an agrarian community in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state last month.
Also on September 27, Channels Television reported how the police rescued over 300 persons including children chained together at an illegal rehabilitation center.
The victims who were said to be drug addicts and miscreants; engaging in social vices before they were brought to the center, are from different parts of Nigeria and Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries.
While at the center, they were subjected to some routine rituals and in some instances, torture.
