Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has promised that very soon the lawmakers will enact more legislation that would address the root causes of insecurity challenges in country and will strengthen the capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces to confront such challenges. This was made through a statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity; Musa Abdullahi Krishi stating that the speaker made the pledge while declaring opens a two-day post-inauguration retreat for members of the House Committee on Defense, which was jointly organized by the Committee and the National Defense College in Abuja.
According to the speaker, issues bordering on insecurity has top the list of Legislative Agenda of the 10th assembly, stressing that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that Armed Forces and police are well-equipped and adequately funded to tackle multiple security challenges facing the country.
The Zaria born politician reiterated that legislators have a critical role to play through ensuring that necessary legislative frameworks are put in place to support national security architecture through robust legislations that address root causes of security challenges.
Abbas stressed the commitment of the 10th House conscious effort to continue to support security agencies through adequate funding, provision of modern equipment, ramping up training, and improving welfare packages for security personnel where possible.
His statement partly reads; “The Legislative Agenda of the House, which I unveiled on Tuesday, 14th November 2023, highlights security and states our commitment to adopting legislative measures to improve national security”.
In his contribution during the meeting, the Committee Chairman, Babajimi Benson expressed concern about current security challenges in Nigeria.
Benson reassured Nigerians that the lawmakers were determined to carry out their legislative functions effectively, efficiently and in a manner that will guarantee safety of lives and property of every citizen.
