As part of efforts toward immortalizing late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, the Federal Government on Friday renamed the Federal University, Ndufu-Ikwo Ebonyi to Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi State. The change was announced by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo during the burial service of the late patriarch at the St John, The Divine Church, Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

About 10, 000 children in two local government areas of Benue state have been forced out of school following incessant violent clashes between herdsmen and farmers. The Chairman of Benue State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Rev. Philip Tachin who stated this on Sunday during an interview with journalists in Makurdi lamented that after the New Year's attack in Guma and Logo LGAs of the state, many families fled their homes alongside their children to take refuge in different camps, forcing the children to abandon their education.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a television license for University of Lagos (UNILAG TV), this is even as management of the school said it will enhance research-oriented education and ease communication within and outside the university campus. This was disclosed in a meeting with the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, and the Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu, at the Presidential Villa.

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUJ) in Kaduna State on Monday commenced an indefinite strike to protest the sacking of over 21,000 teachers by the state government.

The union directed all teachers in the state to remain at home until the state government reverses its decision after the sacked primary school teachers scored below 75 per cent in a competency test conducted for them in June 2017.

The directive was contained in a notice served to NUT members across the state and signed by the union Chairman and Assistant Secretary-General, Audu Amba and Adamu Ango respectively.
