The Police Service Commission (PSC) stated that special promotions would no longer be accepted in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). This was made known by the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) while receiving a delegation of the Executive of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, adding that the Commission would no longer be a rubber stamp for such means of promotion in the police.

He said, “Promotion will now be on merit and there will be written examination and interview.

“Seniority is now irrelevant in modern-day policing since any officer who fails promotion examination will remain on the same rank and if he fails three times, he will be retired at that level for incompetence.”

He further stated the Commission would stop promoting officers unable to pass the prescribed written examinations and also urged for support from retired police officers, adding that their experience while in active service would be instrumental for this new development.
