Colombian pop icon Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy are set to perform the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during the tournament's opening ceremony in Mexico City. The duo will take the stage at Estadio Azteca on June 11 ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, delivering a live performance of Dai Dai, the tournament's official anthem.
Announcing the performance, FIFA described the song as “a celebration of football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents.” The title, an Italian expression meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to feature prominently during the ceremony.
The opening event will also showcase performances by Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer-songwriter Tyla as part of festivities marking the start of the month-long competition.
Explaining the choice of performers, FIFA said: “We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup. Shakira and Burna Boy bring together two of the world’s most influential musical voices.”
The Mexico City ceremony is one of three major opening celebrations planned across the tournament’s host countries. In Canada, Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline pre-match festivities before Canada’s opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12. In the United States, pop star Katy Perry and rapper Future are scheduled to perform before the Americans face Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s appearance further strengthens her long-standing connection with the World Cup, having previously enjoyed global success with tournament songs such as Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
The Colombian superstar is also expected to feature at the World Cup final on July 19, where she will co-headline the competition’s inaugural Super Bowl-style halftime show alongside Madonna and BTS.
