The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its official Twitter page has announced that the country’s death toll still stands at 2,027. Although, 130 cases from 13 states were reported on Friday; NCDC last recorded a death on March 17. Aside from Sunday, Friday is the third day this week no case of COVID-19 related death was reported.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has said that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective. EU’s Medicines Agency Chief, Emer Cooke made this known to newsmen during a press conference after a probe of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine by the body’s safety committee on Thursday.
President Emmanuel Macron of France has suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in his country insists that until the European Medicine Agency (EMA) review it. Macron’s decision to suspend the vaccine as a precautionary measure following the alarm raised by some European countries within the week, but hoping to resume when the EMA give it a node, the president told the press. He said, “We have a simple guide, to be informed by science and the competent health authorities and to do it as part of a European strategy,”.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NDCD) has yesterday recorded 120 persons infected with the coronavirus,the lowest daily recordin the country in the last five months. The health agency stated this on its official Twitter handle yesterday pushing the active cases in the country to now, 13,245. Nigerian government since the outbreak of the coronavirus on February 27, last year has so far only tested 1,601, 396 persons of the infection.
Denmark, Norway, and Iceland have today announced the suspension of the use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine when an emergency of blood clotting was reported amongst those who were injected with the vaccine, though the manufacturer insists their drug was ok.
The first batch of the expected COVAX Astrazeneca/Oxford vaccines has just arrived in Nigeria. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency made the announcement on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, where it was revealed that the 3.92 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India coronavirus vaccine landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, March 2, 2021. Some Officials of the government and Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 were present at the airport to receive the vaccines. They include; the Chairman of the Boss Mustapha, the DG of the NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Minister for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, and the DG of the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control, NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.
