The giant strides of the Kano State government led by Governor Umar Ganduje may be yielding results as the state recently approved the conversion of Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Nassarawa local government area of the state to the status of a Teaching Hospital for Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano.

Emerging reports indicate that Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto has commenced open heart surgery for cardiac-related ailments.
While briefing newsmen in Sokoto, the State capital, acting Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Nasir Muhammed disclosed that heart-related diseases are the common problems all over the world and that anything that affects the heart could lead to an untimely death.

The Nigerian meteorological agency (NiMeT), has warned Nigerians to observe basic precaution as some parts of Nigeria have been sweltering through extreme heat precipitated by an upsurge in temperatures in the past weeks. The worst hit states, according to investigations, are Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa.

A Tobacco Free Nigeria campaign group has disclosed that no fewer than 25,000 underage Nigerians use tobacco products daily. Ms. Ebiuwa Uwagboe, a campaign specialist at Gatefield, the public strategy group backing the campaign disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
