Security forces in the Republic of Chad have arrested the 18-year-old son of the late founder of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf. The terrorist identified as Abdrahman Mohammed Yusuf, a.k.a. Abdraman Mahamat Abdowlaye, was reportedly arrested along with 5 other terrorists suspected to be associated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a splinter group of Boko Haram that broke away in 2016 allegedly over ideological differences.
The Police Command in Kaduna State said its operatives, in collaboration with those of the State Security Service (SSS) and other sister agencies, have arrested a suspected vote buyer in the wee hours of Saturday scheming to buy votes at the by-elections and have recovered N25.9 million in cash. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna.
There was apprehension yesterday following the incident at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, in the wee hours, as 16 inmates escaped in a violent jailbreak that left five correctional officers injured, with two of them in critical condition. The Commissioner of Police for Special Intervention Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, has explained why the Nigerian police is still detaining a Sahara Reporter who is also an activist, Omoyele Sowore, in its custody. According to the police boss, Sowore’s arrest and detention were ordered after the activist allegedly refused to make a statement upon police interrogation when he was invited by the police for an interview.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has fingered real estate developers as being complicit in the widespread occurrence of money laundering in the country, accusing them of being key facilitators due to inadequate customer vetting. This was contained in the antigraft press release on its social media accounts yesterday by its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, while tasking real estate developers with the need to do background checks on real estate investors to ascertain the legitimacy of their sources of income.
