A federal high court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a former senatorial candidate in Borno state, Babagana Habeeb, to 10 years’ imprisonment for “selling petroleum” to Boko Haram terrorists.

President Bola Tinubu has condemned recent attacks by gunmen in Plateau State and Kaduna State, describing the incidents as barbaric and unacceptable, while promising Nigerians to go after the perpetrators. Recall on Sunday night at Angwan Rukuba district in Jos and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area, where several people were reportedly killed and others abducted, including wedding guests.

A gas explosion rocked a filling station along Edide Road in the Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State on Saturday morning, destroying property worth millions of naira. The incident occurred around 9:40 am, with eyewitnesses describing the blast as so powerful that it shook nearby buildings, initially mistaken for a bomb detonation. No fatalities were recorded as of the time of filing this report. Residents expressed concern about the delayed response from both federal and state fire services, including after one hour following the explosion. However, the University of Calabar Fire Service was contacted and expected to intervene.

After being released from prison, Abubakar Malami, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, stated he had no remorse about his activities while in government. Along with his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, Malami is charged with 16 counts of alleged money laundering. Malami has stated that he plans to forcefully defend himself against the accusations.
