Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the surge in killings of unsuspecting armless Nigerians while in prayers, stressing that the siege has reached an epidemic level that threatens our collective humanity as people. Recall, that gunmen had two days ago attacked a mosque while worshippers were observing morning prayers at Unguwan Mantau community, Malumfashi LGA, of Katsina state, killing at least 32 worshippers in a cold blood.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has approved the veiling of witnesses in the trial of five suspectsed terrorist arrested in the 2022 attack at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, who have been linked to a foreign terrorist organisation, the Al-Shabaab. Justice Emeka Nwite had yesterday granted the application to conduct the trial with a witness shield against Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Otuho Abubakar.

Security forces in the Republic of Chad have arrested the 18-year-old son of the late founder of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf. The terrorist identified as Abdrahman Mohammed Yusuf, a.k.a. Abdraman Mahamat Abdowlaye, was reportedly arrested along with 5 other terrorists suspected to be associated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a splinter group of Boko Haram that broke away in 2016 allegedly over ideological differences.

The Police Command in Kaduna State said its operatives, in collaboration with those of the State Security Service (SSS) and other sister agencies, have arrested a suspected vote buyer in the wee hours of Saturday scheming to buy votes at the by-elections and have recovered N25.9 million in cash. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna.

There was apprehension yesterday following the incident at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, in the wee hours, as 16 inmates escaped in a violent jailbreak that left five correctional officers injured, with two of them in critical condition. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the incident in a statement, sparking a nationwide manhunt against the escapees, with Nigerians expressing concern over the security of prisons across the country.

A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has fixed September 24, 25 and 26 for the federal government to conclude the prosecution over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering charges commenced 10 years ago against a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki. The presiding judge, Justice Peter Lifu, gave the order this afternoon after he granted the federal government’s application for adjournment to enable it to bring additional witnesses and to allow the defendant to open his defense.
