The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has on Wednesday said the Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, access to medical treatment while in custody. The ruling followed a compassionate plea by defence counsel during proceedings in the ongoing trial of the former governor over allegations bordering on money laundering and corruption-related offences.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two elderly men, aged 83 and 78, in a nationwide crackdown targeting illicit drug trafficking networks. The suspects were among several individuals apprehended in coordinated operations across multiple states. In Abia State, 83-year-old Pa John Ofiel was arrested on April 28 during a raid in Aba. Acting on intelligence, NDLEA operatives recovered 700 grams of skunk, a potent cannabis strain, already packaged for retail distribution. Ofiel, who identified himself as a shoemaker, reportedly confessed to participating in the illegal trade.

The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered an accelerated hearing in the trial of six suspects accused of plotting a coup to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

A Kaduna State High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and adjourned his trial to the first week of June. Presiding judge, Justice Darius Khobo, fixed the adjournment after hearing arguments from both parties, directing that the case would proceed on a day-to-day basis at the next sitting.
