Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has promised that very soon the lawmakers will enact more legislation that would address the root causes of insecurity challenges in country and will strengthen the capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces to confront such challenges. This was made through a statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity; Musa Abdullahi Krishi stating that the speaker made the pledge while declaring opens a two-day post-inauguration retreat for members of the House Committee on Defense, which was jointly organized by the Committee and the National Defense College in Abuja.

The National Emergency Management Agency has expressed its readiness to draft a seven-year national disaster risk reduction strategy. The agency, in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and other stakeholders, are expected to come up with a national strategy for reducing disasters in the land. The federal agency said this is meant to reduce cases of flooding, boat accidents, kidnapping, banditry, and other disasters in the country.

After two days of Industrial action, the Joint National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, have called off the ongoing strike over the rough-handling of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, allegedly by the police in Imo state among other issues with the labour union. Accordingly, the industrial action was suspended following the intervention of the Federal Government through the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA. 

The Lagos State Government has announced that it has shut down 20 important roads on Lagos Island and Victoria Island. The State announced that the road was closed for two reasons, for the continuation of repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works and also for Saturday’s Women’s Marathon.

In the build-up to the November 11, 2023 elections scheduled to hold in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states, the Department of State Services (DSS) has released a statement on its official X (Twitter page) on Thursday. The statement was signed by Peter Afunanya, the DSS Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications and titled, ‘DSS Cautions Against Inflammatory Statements-Calls for Peace During the Elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States’.

Following the call by the Nigerian labour Congress for industrial action yesterday, many top government officials, together with their armed escorts, business guests and hundreds of other Nigerians have been denied from entering the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja. As of 9.15 am a source disclosed that at the Airport entry lane down to some few kilometres, scores of vehicles carrying air passengers have gotten into a traffic jam stranded and have remained without room to manoeuvre over a distance of about four kilometres to the airport main gate.
