Questions are beginning to emerge between titans of the First City Monument Bank, FCMB, over the appointment of FCMB Group’s Group Chief Technology Officer, Hima Mandali (an Indian American national), amid growing conversations around localisation, indigenous participation and executive leadership within Nigeria’s financial sector.
The appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security has triggered fresh conversations about the evolving structure of Nigeria’s security framework under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. President Tinubu, who is currently out of the country, confirmed the appointment in a circular released on Monday. The notice was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has accused some social media users of worsening insecurity in the state through the spread of sensational reports about recent attacks in affected communities. The governor said those sharing graphic details and unverified information online were contributing to fear and damaging the reputation of Plateau State. Mutfwang made the remarks during a stakeholders’ engagement in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area following renewed violence in parts of the state. According to him, while security incidents should not be concealed, irresponsible reporting was creating panic and portraying Plateau as unsafe to visitors and investors.
The Federal Government, yesterday during a trial, expanded the criminal charges against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, by introducing fresh allegations bordering on interference with critical national infrastructure and unauthorised access to classified information. The new counts are contained in a further amended five-count charge filed earlier on April 13, 2026, before the Federal High Court in Abuja, replacing an earlier three-count charge instituted on February 16, 2026.
The federal government has concluded a plan to parade the detained suspects linked to an alleged plot to overthrow the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for concealment of treason, terrorism and money laundering. The suspects are former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timpre Sylva; Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana (rtd); a retired Navy Captain, Erasmus Ochegobia Victor; and Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim. Others are Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni and Abdulkadir Sani. A 13-count charge was filed against them on Tuesday.
Few weeks after President Bola Tinubu visited Plateau State and promised justice for victims of serial attacks, the State Government on Friday filed charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the March 2026 killings of several persons in Angwa- Rukuba, Jos North LGA of the state. The government filed charges of criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and other related offences against the quartet of Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar aka Auwalu Dogo, and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim aka Yaroro.
