Tinubu Formally Transmits State Police Bill to Senate
The Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) State Police Bill, 2026, has been formally sent to the Nigerian Senate by President Bola Tinubu for review. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter, which was dated June 15, 2026, on the upper legislative chamber floor on Tuesday. Tinubu stated in the letter that the proposed law aims to create a constitutional foundation for the creation of state police services in Nigeria by amending the 1999 constitution. In the letter, Tinubu said the proposed legislation seeks to amend the 1999 constitution to create a constitutional framework for the establishment of state police services in Nigeria.
