The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has been summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning. The agency’s invitation was contained in a letter dated November 24. It is fixed for Friday, November 28, for the interview. “The Commission is investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,” the letter, signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu, on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, read.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Nigerian team of the United States (US)-Nigeria Joint Working Group (JWG) on security as part of measures to strengthen collaboration with the US in tackling security challenges in Nigeria.

Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, said on Thursday that 11,566 officers who had previously been assigned to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) have withdrawn in accordance with a presidential mandate. During an ongoing meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, Egbetokun disclosed this, stating that the presidential order has given him the authority to carry out the directive completely and without hindrance.

As Nigeria faces growing security threats, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a national security emergency on Wednesday and announced broad measures, including significant recruiting campaigns for the police and armed forces. The President approved the hiring of an extra 20,000 police officers, bringing the total authorized for the year to 50,000, in a nationwide statement released from the State House. Additionally, he gave the Nigerian Army instructions to start recruiting new soldiers in order to increase the number of soldiers in important operational theaters.
