The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has blamed negligence by some officers of the Nigerian correctional service as responsible for the jail break that occurred at Koton Karfe, Kogi State correctional center. Recall Vigil360 reported an incident of jailbreak, which occurred in the early hours of Monday at Koton Karfe, Kogi state that saw about 12 inmates escape.
A notorious bandit leader, Isuhu Madele, popularly known as Dan Isuhu, has been neutralized by a rival gang loyal to Dogo Gide through ambush in Katsina forest. Mr Dan Isuhu had become a dreaded name whom has been terrorizing towns and villages like Tsafe and neighboring communities, Dansadau, Sabuwa and some parts of Gusau in Zamfara State as well as Faskari, Kankara and Funtua in Katsina State.
Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, yesterday cautioned officers and men of the Nigerian Police against unlawful arrest and prolong detention of suspects, stressing the need to uphold the fundamental rights of individuals in police custody. In a statement on Sunday by the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IG stressed the need for strict adherence to constitutional rights while citing Sections 34 and 35 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantee the right to dignity and personal liberty.
A high court of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday began definite hearing in the case of defamation instituted by two operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
Security operatives have foiled an attack by suspected bandits in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. Acting on credible intelligence from the Department of State Services, DSS in Danmusa, security forces stormed Maijele Mountain, where the criminal elements had gathered for their notorious activities. The police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Sunday, said an intelligence report from the DSS had indicated that a group of armed bandits had gathered at Maijele Mountain, preparing to launch an attack.
