The Department of State Services (DSS), with support from troops of the Nigerian Army's 82 Division, has foiled an alleged plot by members of the outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN) to attack security checkpoints and carry out mass kidnappings across states in the Southeast. A security source disclosed that acting on intelligence gathered by the DSS, two ESN field commanders who were coordinating the planned attacks were arrested on Monday in Garki, Enugu State.

Hundreds of young Nigerians on Tuesday gathered at the National Assembly in Abuja to call for national unity in the fight against insecurity, urging citizens to set aside political differences and support efforts to combat terrorism and violent crime across the country. The protesters said they could no longer remain silent while insecurity is being politicised.
