The Nigerian military and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have announced notable progress in their recent counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations. Over the past 29 days, the forces have eliminated 1,166 terrorists and apprehended 1,096 suspects. Additionally, they have seized a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition and rescued 721 hostages.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured Nigerians that the Army will not disrupt democratic governance in the country. He made this known on Tuesday during his opening remarks at the 2024 Chief of Army Staff combined second and third quarters conference which took place in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom.

About 31.8 million Nigerians have been estimated to face acute hunger and malnutrition this year as food prices have continued to sour. A statistic made available by Cadre Harmonise for the year 2024 report revealed that the surge in the prices of staple food have continue to skyrockets following the removal of fuel subsidy and the continued activities of banditry that have denied many farmers access to their farmlands.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, (NARD), has embarked on a seven-day warning strike over the abduction of their colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Opthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna and has been in kidnappers' den for eight months. This development was made known by the President of NARD, Dr Dele Abdullahi, during a virtual meeting held on Sunday with the National Executive Council.

Following the renewed pogrom unleashed by bandits in villages across Niger state, the State Government has called on the Nigerian Army to deploy more troops to the affected communities in the state placed under siege by bandits. The call followed an unabated attacks on several local governments areas in the state that have succumb to faith as residents either get killed or abducted on daily bases.
