United States Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth has reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against insurgency, stating that the U.S. military will continue to collaborate with Nigerian authorities in tackling terrorist threats. Hegseth said the U.S. Department of Defence has been acting on directives from President Donald Trump, whom he said is determined to protect Christians facing attacks from extremist groups.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgement in the trial of five men accused by the Department of State Services (DSS) of involvement in the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State. Justice Emeka Nwite announced the decision on Tuesday after hearing the final submissions from both the prosecution and defence teams. Although the matter was adjourned indefinitely, the judge informed counsel that they would be notified once the judgement is ready, adding that the notice could come within 24 hours.

A luxury passenger bus carrying military camouflage uniforms, cannabis sativa, and other illegal goods that were reportedly smuggled into the nation was stopped by the Nigeria Customs Service's Ogun I Area Command at Idiroko. Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, the illegal goods were stopped while being transported to the country's east via the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway.

Former Head of State Yakubu Gowon has revisited one of the most controversial periods in Nigeria’s history, accusing late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu of undermining repeated efforts to prevent the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War. The allegation is contained in Gowon’s autobiography, My Life of Service and Allegiance, where he recounts the political tensions, failed negotiations and constitutional disagreements that deepened the crisis between the Federal Military Government and the Eastern Region before the 1967–1970 conflict.

The Defence Headquarters has described the recent attacks on schools in Oyo State as isolated criminal acts rather than signs of an entrenched terrorist network in the South-West. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, made this known on Tuesday while reacting to attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
