Stakeholders have continued to express concern over the plan by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on the possibility of allowing prison inmates to vote in the 2027 general elections. Although some legal experts have continued to be aloof, as the move is in tandem with constitutional provisions guaranteeing the rights of all citizens to vote, including those in custody, political analysts have expressed concerns, describing it as an act of desperation for potential manipulation of prisoners’ ballots.

The United States (US) Department of State has approved the potential sale of ammunition, precision rockets, and bombs to Nigeria at an estimated cost of $346 million. This development was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

After careful review of the incident involving Ibom Air and ValueJet crews, the federal government has taken fresh decisions on Miss Comfort Emmanson and King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM1), respectively. Accordingly, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, in a statement today revealed that he had directed Ibom Air to withdraw criminal charges filed against Miss Emmanson.

As two of the tenets of the updated National Counter-Terrorism Strategy 2025, the Federal Government has announced efforts to improve interagency coordination and increase community involvement. Major General Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Center, stated during the final validation exercise for the draft strategy in Abuja on Tuesday that the updated framework was intended to enhance cooperation between security agencies and encourage public involvement in preventing and combating terrorism.

Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has called for improved synergy between the military, judiciary, and other key stakeholders if Nigeria is to win the war on terrorism as well as dismantle terrorist networks. Mr Oluyede made the appeal in Zaria this afternoon at the 2025 Training Workshop organised by the Nigeria Army School of Legal Services Zaria, Kaduna State.
