According to the Defense Headquarters, in August, military personnel killed several terrorists, detained 85 suspects, and freed 66 hostages who had been abducted nationwide. This was said by Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director, Defence Media activities, during a briefing for reporters on military activities in Abuja on Thursday.

Human rights activist, Mahdi Shehu, has fired back at former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, saying he was being hypocritical over his recent comments on security strategies in the country. Shehu was reacting to El-Rufai’s interview on Channels Television last week, Shehu said it was ironic for the former governor to condemn incumbent, Uba Sani and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for allegedly making payments to bandits, when he himself once admitted to taking similar steps.

Southern Borno Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has condemned renewed Boko Haram onslaught on Ngoshe community and Mussa in in Gwoza and Askira/Uba Local Government Areas respectively which left several people dead over the weekend. In Ngoshe, five farmers were slaughtered while tilling their farmlands on Saturday morning. The same night in Mussa, gunmen invaded the community, killing three youths and setting houses and shops ablaze setting pandemonium in both communities.

The Islamic supreme leader was speaking yesterday Sunday in Enugu during the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA. He noted that corruption and inequality are weakening the Nigeria’s courts, adding, “Justice is increasingly becoming a purchasable commodity, and the poor is always the victims of the system, while the rich commit all manner of crime and walk the streets scot-free.”
