The Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) National Convention, which was held in Oyo State, Ibadan, on November 15, 2025, was declared invalid by a Federal High Court in Ibadan. Following the heated and contentious convention, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was elected as the PDP National Chairman. The court prohibited Turaki and others from posing as PDP national officers. Delegates from all 36 states as well as the Federal Capital Territory attended the convention, which was characterised by intense disputes over zoning, accreditation hold-ups, and accusations of last-minute manoeuvring by competing blocs.
Factional groups traded accusations, causing minor interruptions before the start of voting, and security was strengthened around the venue.
The court further decided that, until a legitimate National Convention is being held, the only recognised NWC of the PDP is the Caretaker Committee, which is headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Mohammed Abdulrahman. The court's decision is the most recent development in the long-running turmoil that the PDP is experiencing.
