On Sunday, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced the withdrawal of Indomie Vegetable Flavor noodles from circulation following the identification of non-declared allergens that could be detrimental to the health of its consumers.

In her statement, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, informed the public that the product in question is not currently available for sale in Nigeria.

She added that the agency has heightened monitoring efforts across the country to ensure the product does not enter Nigeria or find its way to the market

“In light of this development, NAFDAC has undertaken some proactive measures as a responsive regulator by ensuring increased vigilance actions to guard against the possible entry of the recalled product into Nigeria,” Adeyeye said.

In addition, “Surveillance has been directed across all zones and states, and zonal directors and state coordinators have been mandated to mop up the product if found within their jurisdictions.”

The NAFDAC DG further stated that the agency’s Ports Inspection Directorate (PID) has been alerted to block the importation of any affected or unauthorized noodle products into the country, noting that noodles are listed on the Prohibition List of the Federal Government, which means their importation into the country is unlawful.

‘It is important to note that noodles are listed on the Import Prohibition List of the Federal Government of Nigeria, meaning their importation into the country is not allowed. This significantly reduces the likelihood of the affected product entering the Nigerian market,’ the statement said.

Adeyeye advised consumers to sustain vigilance, promptly dispose of the recalled product if found, and not hesitate to report any ongoing sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or by calling the agency’s toll-free number, 0800-162-3322.

She further encouraged the public to report any harmful effects associated with consumption using the agency’s E-reporting platforms available on its official website.
