Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national and state levels have concluded plans to organise a reception for Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, scheduled for January 26, next year, in Jos. The party's acting State Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamayi, said the event is intended to formally welcome Mutfwang into the APC fold. He disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in the Plateau State capital.
According to Bmamayi, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, announced the planned reception while briefing journalists after a well-attended stakeholders' meeting held at the Crest Hotel, Jos.
Bamayi said the reception would signal the consolidation of APC's influence in Plateau State, noting that the governor's defection underscores the party's growing dominance in the state.
Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, Yilwatda said Mutfwang’s entry into the APC would further galvanise, consolidate, and strengthen the party across Plateau State. He added that the party remains open to “everybody who matters in the country” and is willing to work with those interested in joining its ranks.
The national chairman pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the APC “legitimately wins future elections from top to bottom.” He also announced that existing executive councils nationwide had been converted into caretaker committees, whose tenure will expire in March next year.
Yilwatda urged party members to participate in the ongoing electronic registration exercise to become bona fide APC members.
Also speaking, former Plateau State Governor and APC leader in the state, Senator Simon Lalong, commended party members for their resilience, loyalty, and continued support. He dismissed concerns arising from recent political developments, describing them as unnecessary, and assured members that they would remain recognised and included in all political arrangements.
APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature, said members would continue to abide by the decisions of the party leadership, while Chairman of the State Council of Elders, Ambassador Danladi Wuyep, expressed satisfaction with the large turnout at the stakeholders’ meeting and expressed hope that the sacrifices of long-serving party members would be duly acknowledged.
