President Bola Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) to distribute rice across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to support citizens observing the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons. The directive was disclosed by Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, in a statement issued over the weekend.
Uzodimma said the initiative was designed to reinforce national unity and demonstrate compassion during a period of deep spiritual significance for both Muslim and Christian faithful across the country.
According to the statement, the programme will see rice distributed nationwide through the organisation's grassroots network to ensure that families benefit from the intervention during the fasting period.
The distribution will be coordinated through RHA structures at the state, local government, and ward levels to ensure wide coverage and transparency.
Officials said the effort reflects the administration's broader commitment to supporting citizens during major religious and cultural observances.
A similar initiative was undertaken during the Christmas season last year, when rice was also distributed to Nigerians celebrating the festive period.
The statement noted that both Christian and Muslim communities would benefit from the nationwide programme, underscoring the government’s emphasis on inclusivity and shared national values.
Uzodimma said the programme highlighted the president’s belief in providing support to citizens during periods of fasting while promoting interfaith harmony.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to unity and compassion. Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity, and care for one another. Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
