Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday met with the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki in what sources described as a strategic meeting. The development comes less than 48 hours after Jonathan hinted that he is weighing the possibility of returning to the presidential race in 2027.
Speaking to a group of supporters who gathered outside his office in Abuja on Thursday, the former president confirmed that consultations were ongoing regarding a potential bid.
The supporters had visited Jonathan to appeal to him to join the 2027 presidential contest.
Responding to their request, Jonathan cautioned that seeking the nation’s highest office requires serious consideration and broad engagement with stakeholders.
“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” he said.
