Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday, warned that bandits could take advantage of the transition period to launch bloody attacks in the country. He, therefore, advised that security operations against bandits should be increased in the remaining days of the current administration and beyond. This is coming on the heels of a fresh attack on Sabon Layi community of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The bandits were reported to have stormed the area in their large number shot sporadically, killed nine people, abducted over 20 others and then rustled several livestock. Governor Nasir El-Rufai during the presentation of a security report by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, the state capital on Wednesday. “Though grim, these reports are published in fulfilment of the obligation of transparency that the government owes the residents of this state.they have a right to updates on the progress in investments, revenue generation and other happy events, citizens have legitimate expectations to be provided with consistently accurate accounts of what is going on and on the measures being taken to address security challenges. 

Aviation workers made good their threat on Monday by withdrawing services from airports nationwide which caused a near chaos situation in some airports especially at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja. This is despite a statement by the Ministry of Aviation on Monday, pleading with the striking workers to suspend the industrial action that led to many air passengers across the country being stranded. The industrial action on Monday April 17, is premised on the alleged non-release of the union’s reviewed Condition of Service negotiated with four aviation agencies over seven years in addition to the planned demolition of Lagos offices of some agencies. The development could leave many air passengers stranded in Abuja, Lagos, and other airports in the country.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Usman Baba, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, a retired IGP, met with other former IGPs on Wednesday at the PSC Corporate Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja. The meeting which was initiated by Arase had former IGPs in attendance such as Sunday Ehindero, Ogbonna Onovo, Mike Okiro, and the incumbent Chairman of the Police Trust Fund, Suleiman Abba.

The Presidency has revealed that the appointment of service chiefs is not based on the principle of federal character and ethnic balancing. This was made known on Monday night by the presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina while speaking on the Politics Today program aired by Channels Television.

Gunmen attacked refugees at a primary school at Mgban in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State and killed no fewer than 34 people. It was revealed that the incident happened in the late hours on 7th April 2023. This is coming less than 48 hours after the gruesome killing of over 40 persons at the Umogidi in Otukpo LGA of the state. Chairman of the LGA, Mike Aba, who spoke through the security officer of the local government, Christopher Waku, described the attack as genocide.
