The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has sympathized with the Muslims following the tragic collapse of a section of the historic Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna State while observing Friday's prayers session at about 4 pm leading to the death of 10 people. In a statement on Saturday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, sympathized with the families who lost loved ones in the unfortunate incident and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.“In this moment of sorrow, we stand united as one people, acknowledging the importance of mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among the various religious communities in Nigeria. Tragedies such as this remind us of our shared humanity and the need for solidarity during times of crisis.“We commend the swift response of the relevant authorities and emergency services in rescuing survivors and providing necessary medical attention.
“We urge the government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough investigation into the causes of this incident, with the aim of preventing such accidents in the future and ensuring the safety of worshippers in all places of worship across the country,” the statement partly read.
More so, the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, Governor Sani prayed for God’s divine healing and recovery of all those injured in the unfortunate incident. He thanked Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau for the fatherly role he played in rallying his subjects to carry out rescue operations, offer assistance to the injured, and console the families of the victims.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Lawal Shehu said, “An advance team of senior government officials led by Balarabe Abbas Lawal, the Secretary to the State Government is already in Zaria to assess the situation on the ground and attend the Islamic funeral rites of the deceased.”
According to the statement, the state government also ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the unfortunate incident... Governor Sani urged citizens of the state to offer prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed in the incident.
