Ahead of the election for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area councils scheduled for February 21, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission has deployed 3,345 Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS) to 2,822 polling units.
This was disclosed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), during a high-level stakeholders’ forum on Wednesday, adding that the Commission was committed to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
He also stated that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) would be available to prevent vote buying, selling, and other electoral offenses.
Similarly, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced the restriction of movement from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Command stated that only those deployed for essential and election duties were exempted from the movement restriction order, adding that police were deployed across the FCT to ensure a hitch-free election exercise.
