The people of Plateau State are once again reeling from tragedy. Violent attacks, reportedly carried out by armed herdsmen, have left at least 19 people dead and many more displaced across Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas. These ruthless assaults have torn apart families, destroyed homes, and reignited fears that lasting peace is still far from reach. The latest violence unfolded on Thursday night in Juwan, a peaceful village in Bokkos’ Tangur District. As darkness fell, gunmen launched a surprise attack, killing ten people and injuring others as they tried to flee. Survivors describe a terrifying night filled with screams, gunshots, and desperate efforts to escape.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Sunday confirmed the killing of 59 persons in Yelwata, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states, following a deadly attack by suspected herdsmen.

The Nigeria Police Force in Kaduna has dismissed reports circulating in the media that claimed 150 to 200 individuals were kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, these reports are entirely fabricated and have no basis in fact. DSP Mansir Hassan noted that the Command had been alerted to a misleading report spreading on social media, alleging mass abductions along the Abuja-Kaduna route. He emphasized that no such incidents have been recorded on that highway in the past two years. The area, he assured, remains under constant surveillance and is regularly patrolled by security forces including the Police, Military, and DSS to ensure the safety of all travelers.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a new application at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to restrain former presidential candidate Patrick Utomi from making public statements or organizing rallies linked to his proposed shadow government in Nigeria.

In a joint operation to rid Nigerian forest of terrorist bandits, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military have killed about 45 bandits around Kuchi town in Munya LGA of Niger State. The operation, which was meant to be carried out secretly, has made another remarkable victory in the sustained offensives against bandits in the area.

The Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Nwakuche has charged Zonal Coordinators, State Command Controllers, and heads of training institutions to secure all correctional facilities or face strict consequences. The warning came during an emergency virtual strategy meeting convened to address growing concerns over facility safety ahead of the festive season and amid the challenges posed by heavy rainfall. “Every correctional facility must be secured without excuse, and any officer found wanting will be held accountable. “This is not just about concrete walls and iron bars, it’s about trust, duty, and the safety of every Nigerian. The time for complacency is over”, he stated.
