UNICEF says Yemen’s stocks of fuel and vaccines will run out in a month unless a Saudi-led military coalition allows aid into the blockaded port of Hodeidah and Sanaa airport.
UNICEF’s representative, Meritxell Relano, who said this on Friday on phone with newsmen in Geneva, said fuel prices had risen to 60 percent in that country.
She said that there was urgent concern about diphtheria outbreak as well as food shortage because of the port closure.
“The situation that was already catastrophic is just getting worse, the impact of this is unimaginable in terms of health and diseases,’’ she said.
The BBC reports that after two years of civil war, Yemen has 7 million people on the brink of famine and has had 900,000 suspected cholera cases in the past six months.
