Ford Motor Co. says it is ramping up investment in electric and hybrid vehicles and plans to introduce 40 by 2022, saying it will introduce 16 battery-electric cars and 24 hybrids or plug-in hybrids around the world in the next few years. Ford Motor will increase to $11 billion its investment in electrified vehicles between now and 2022. The plan more than doubles an earlier plan, announced in 2016, to spend $4.5 billion on 13 new electrified vehicles by 2020.
Finnish cybersecurity specialist F-Secure has reported another serious flaw in Intel hardware. It has nothing to do with the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities, but has a huge "destructive potential" too. F-Secure said Friday it had found a serious flaw in Intel hardware which could enable hackers to access corporate laptops remotely.
It’s the world’s first modular MicroLED TV, aptly christened “The Wall”, Samsung’s 146” TV is a marvel and while it’s huge, it’s really the technology behind it that has us more excited. Most people must have heard of MicroLED as a potential future replacement of OLED (on phones and elsewhere). It is similar in that each pixel is its own light so it offers perfect black levels (and doesn’t need a backlight like LCD, no color filters either).
China's foray into the skies took a different level as its first large amphibious aircraft AG600 successfully completed its maiden flight in south China's Guangdong Province. At 9:39 a.m., the aircraft AG600, code named "Kunlong," left Jinwan airport in the city of Zhuhai. The flight lasted about one hour.
Twenty First Century Fox Inc’s Fox Sports is partnering with Twitter Inc to stream a live show and Snap Inc’s Snapchat to showcase stories with matchday highlights on the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament to be hosted in Russia later this year. Fox Sports would produce the show, which will be streamed from Moscow's Red Square on each match day and provide previews, recaps and near real-time video highlights for each game, the company said.
Music streaming service Spotify has filed confidentially for an initial public offering with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and is moving ahead with a direct listing in the first half of the year, a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
If Spotify, which was valued at as much as $19 billion last year, goes ahead with its plans, it would make it the first major company to carry out a direct listing, an unconventional way to pursue an IPO without raising new capital.
Turkey’s Turksat 5A and 5B satellites will be launched by US billionaire Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), Turkish Transport Minister Ahmet Arslan said on Thursday. “Our friends decided to launch our satellites with the Falcon 9 rockets of Airbus’ subcontractor, SpaceX,” Arslan said at an event in Istanbul.
