The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd., has reacted to the issues that led to fuel queues in some major cities of the country saying it was caused by tightness in the supply of fuel and currently have been resolved. Accordingly, the NNPC Ltd. the issues surrounding this were as a result of logistics problems. Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd. Olufemi Soneye, stated this yesterday while assuring that the problem has been fixed.
Mr Soneye reiterated that the prices of petroleum products were not changing in anyway contrary to some speculators.
In his statement, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to clarify that the tightness in the supply of PMS currently being experienced in some areas across the country is as a result of logistics issues and that they have been resolved.
“The NNPC Ltd. urges Nigerians to avoid panic buying as there is a sufficiency of products in the country,” he assured.
There were concerns from citizen especially motorists in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT over the long queues being experienced at fuel stations across the city due to scarcity of PMS.
Although, the independent marketers have continue to sell between N680 and N800 per litre, while the NNPC Ltd. retail outlets maintain its pump price of N617 per litre.
The black marketers have also resurfaced along the major roads and in front of fuel stations making brisk business, selling above N1, 000 per litre of fuel.
Meanwhile, some of the motorists are lamenting about the inconsistency and unavailability of fuel and its associated high price in the country making reference to assurances that the government made during the removal of the fuel subsidy about the availability, while calling on the Federal Government to urgently resolve whatever the issues were.
