Electricity Tariff Hike: Senate Commences Hearing On Probe

The Senate committee on power has today revealed that it commenced an investigative hearing on electricity tariff hike in the country that was responsible for skyrockating electricity billing amidst hunger in the land. Accordingly, the investigative hearing is taking place at the National Assembly complex in Abuja. According to the lawmakers, it would not hesitate to punish anyone or agency found culpable of adding to the burden and sufferings of Nigerians. 


Speaking at the investigative hearing today, chairman of the committee, Senator Eyinnaya Ababribe, revealed the investigative hearing was in response to the two motions presented at plenary on Tuesday, 25 July 2023 and Wednesday, 21st February 2024. 

Abaribe said the Senate by its resolutions mandated the Committee on Power to “engage with the Federal Ministry of Power, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and other stakeholders.” 

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and other top officials in the power sector were at the hearing to clarify issues to the lawmakers.
