Liverpool Delisted From World Heritage List

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added Liverpool’s Maritime Mercantile City to the list of removed heritage sites and third to be delisted since the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, Oman, in 2007 and Elbe Valley in Dresden, Germany in 2009. The move follows concerns raised in 2012 about the proposed development of disused dockland near the city centre, which a UNESCO committee decided were “detrimental to the site’s authenticity and integrity”.

Google Honours Oliver De Coque On His 74th Posthumous Birthday

Highlife King of Africa and Nigerian guitarist Oliver Sunday Akanite popularly known as King (Dr.) Chief Oliver De Coque who died at the age of 61 in 2008 has been honoured posthumously by Google when the company dedicated a doodle on him for his 74th birthday. The illustration for the doodle was made by Ohab Tochukwu Bernard Johnbosco (Ohab TBJ) who expressed his delight as a dream come true.

Smuggled Nigerian Sculpture Returned By Mexican Authorities

The government of Mexico in a display of good faith has brought back an ancient Ile-Ife bronze sculpture to Nigeria following its seizure by customs officials at the Mexico City International airport. The sculpture is believed to date back to the 6th Century from the south-western region of Nigeria. The above information was revealed in a press statement obtained on Mexico’s website on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
