Senator Dino Melaye has described as preposterous and laughable, the allegations by the police that he hired two political thugs and armed them to cause mayhem in Kogi State.

The police in Lokoja today said they have charged the senator with illegal possession of firearms in a case filed in a Lokoja court on 16 March.

Charged along with the senator were another politician, Muhammed Audu, said to be on the run and two other ‘deadly’ persons linked with a spate of kidnapping and robbery.

One of the two suspects was identified as a 31-year-old Kabiru Saidu, a.k.a Osama. T

The Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly has dissolved its executives, following the expiration of their two-year tenure of office.

The Conference also setup a six-man caretaker committee to conduct elections to elect new executive members, who will pilot its affairs for the next two years.

Hon. Edward Ubosi, Vice Chairman of the Caretaker Committee and Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, made this known in a communiqué, on Sunday, in Gusau.

The Conference held its 2018 first quarter meeting in Zamfara, where important national issues were deliberated upon.

Former governor of Adamawa state and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Murtala Nyako, says the crisis in the ruling party might affect it in 2019.

He said the extension of tenure of the party’s national working committee (NWC) may lead to its downfall.

The party extended the tenure of the NWC led by John Oyegun by 12 months.

Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, had said the extension would take effect from June 30 and was necessary considering the time left for the party to conduct its congresses and conventions.

The Deputy Governor of Imo, Mr Eze Madumere, said he would pursue his governorship ambition to a logical conclusion in spite of opposition from his boss, Chief Rochas Okorocha, who has since endorsed his son-in-law, Mr Uche Nwosu, as his successor. Madumere in a statement issued by Mr Uche Onwuchekwa, his Media aide, said no amount of opposition from the governor would make him to lose sight of the ambition.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to recover funds meant for internally displaced persons (IDPs) which were allegedly stolen by the “presidency cabal”.

In a statement released on Sunday, Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the party, said the government is not sincere with the rehabilitation of IDPs.

Ologbondiyan accused the government of providing cover for those “frittering away billions of naira donated for the well-being of victims of insurgency”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has threatened to sack over 45 chief executives of federal parastatals and agencies that refuse to appear before the National Assembly to defend their budgets.

This follows the outcome of the President’s meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly on Thursday, at the Presidential Villa, during which the lawmakers had complained to President Buhari that the chief executives were refusing to appear before it for their budget defence.
