The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has flagged off the first phase of refineries rehabilitation programme with the Port Harcourt Refinery Complex.
According to the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru made the disclosure during the official kick-off meeting in the premises of the refinery in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Maire Tecnimont S.p.A, a Milan based engineering and construction firm in collaboration with its Nigerian counterpart will execute the rehabilitation of the nation's first refining plant.
In a statement by NNPC spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu said the first phase which will commence from the end of March is expected to run for 6 months. He added that at the end of the first phase, the refinery would be at 60% capacity utilization.
However, the second phase will come immediately after the successful completion of the integrity check to ensure the level of revamping of the plant.
Also, the second phase entails the deployment of modern resources to effectively upgrade the complex.
Meanwhile, the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery plant will be followed by Kaduna and Warri.
