The Federal Government on Monday signed a memorandum of Understanding with Switzerland to facilitate the return of over $321m loot traced the late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha. The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) signed the MoU on behalf of the Federal Government on Monday at the Headquarters of World Bank Group, Washington DC.

According to the MoU, the Nigerian Government is expected to use the funds on social protection programmes upon its release.


Both local and international Civil Society Organizations were deeply involved in the negotiation of the new MoU and are expected to monitor the disbursement of the funds when the bank releases it to the government.
